First settled in 1750 by English and Irish fishermen and families, Fogo Island became a thriving and important fishing hub in colonial Newfoundland.

Today, the fishing industry is alive with local fishermen and fish processing. Fogo Island welcomes hundreds of tourists, artists and other businesses annually who come for business, pleasure or both.
